It is common knowledge that the more outlandish or eye catching the mental image connected to the word, the greater impact it has on retention rate. All students learn more effectively when their attention is deepened. In the last few years I have made a variety of illustrations for this purpose, basically for fun and to grab students attention.
Attention is critical to memory. many of the pictures are like visual stories. But we have to work out or imagine the meaning. This makes a good foundation for practicing conversation.

Always found Flash cards to be an essential part of an english lesson . They can be used as a main focus or as an extra addition to catch students attention if there's a laps of enthusiasm for a particular subject or simply adding another dimension to the lesson. They clear the air and add fun and curiosity and are useful for all ages and levels.
